Ronnie Dorrell

Ronnie has been in law enforcement since 2012 and is currently a Sergeant with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, serving in the Patrol Division and an Assistant Team Leader on the Douglas County S.W.A.T. Team. Ronnie has been married to Stephanie Dorrell for 12 years and together have two children. In 2016, Ronnie was involved in an officer-involved shooting in which Detective Dan Brite was shot and nearly killed. Approximately 15 months later, Ronnie was involved in a second officer-involved shooting that killed Deputy Zack Parrish. Unfortunately, Ronnie was also witness to an officer's suicide. These events drastically changed his life, not only professionally but personally. Throughout the struggles from these events, Ronnie has come to utilize the psychological services provided to him through his agency and the peer support team. Ronnie openly presents the trauma he experienced and other trauma from the job. Ronnie hopes by sharing his experience he can help others overcome the trauma and the stigma on mental health in the first responder world.
