Our Founding Organizations

  • Code-4 Counseling

Code-4 Counseling, established in 2017, is the brainchild of Dr. Sara Metz, PsyD, and retired Chief of Police Nick Metz, MS, LPCC. Dr. Sara Metz, a licensed clinical psychologist with 15 years of expertise in first responder and military psychology, co-founded the organization to address the unique mental health needs of these populations. Nick Metz, boasting 25 years of experience in law enforcement, retired as Chief of Police in 2015 and later pursued a Master's in Military and Emergency Responder Psychology from Colorado State University - Global Campus, a program designed and operated by Dr. Sara Metz. Code-4 Counseling, under their leadership, has assembled a team of over 20 clinicians, each possessing firsthand experience or specialized education in military and first responder work. Conducting wellness training nationwide, the Metz's and their dedicated team aim to provide support not only to field responders but also to department leadership and their families, contributing to the overall well-being of this deserving group of individuals.

  • It's A Calling Foundation

Its A Calling Foundation (IACF) emerged as a response to the escalating mental health crisis among emergency responders and military personnel. Recognizing the pressing need for culturally competent care in these crucial fields, a group of dedicated supporters rallied together to address this gap. Their mission gained momentum as they formed a team of clinical students across Colorado, many of whom were former responders or were pursuing specialized degrees in military and emergency responder psychology. In an effort to make mental health care accessible, especially in a state where the average hourly therapy rate is $165, IACF provided free services for over a year from its inception. To sustain the foundation's operations, they now require a maximum fee of $40 per session. This innovative business model has enabled IACF to offer more than 700 sessions to first responders, military personnel, and their families, illustrating their commitment to providing affordable and culturally sensitive mental health care to those who need it most.

  • Revital Colorado

Revital Colorado was launched in September of 2020 to support the mental health and wellness of first responders. The statistics surrounding first responders' mental health was astounding but not surprising to founder Jordan Long. As a former Firefighter/Paramedic, Jordan and his wife Kym understand some of the physical and mental challenges that come with the job. After a few years of their own struggles, they realized the need for a preventative approach to helping first responders focus on their mental health. They are passionate about supporting public servants and their families in a variety of different ways. By allowing a safe place for first responders to go enjoy an activity, it allows them to open up and share their experiences and traumas with fellow colleagues who understand the struggles of the job. In turn, the hope is that they can be more present with their families and healthier to do their job at a higher level. They believe that providing platforms for community and connection are a vital way that we can support the mental health and wellness of our first responders.
